Wailua River State Park consists mainly of the lush Wailua River Valley and the Wailua River, which is the only navigable river in Hawaii. Visitors can take boat tours to see the rainforest.
Two scenic waterfalls, ‘Opaeka‘a Falls and Wailua Falls, reside within the park.
Visitors may also be interested in seeing the Wailua Complex of Heiau, a National Historic Landmark. This site was once the center of chiefly power of the old Hawai’i. The landmark has the remains of several important structures: places of worship (heiau), places of refuge (puʻuhonua), and sites related to royal births.
